First of all I am a noob to computers at best. I will try to explain my issue the best I can. While watching a video online my screen got pixellated (green and black) and froze. I could still hear the movie going on but had no control over anything. I hit the power button to shut down the computer. I tried to restart and it goes to the Apple logo startup screen with the "loading" icon then it freezes and goes to a lavender and teal screen with an error message written over a power (on/off) image. The message reads "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the Restart button." they seem to say it in 4 different languages. Can anyone tell me what's going on? I need help! Thank you.

You experienced what is known as a "kernel panic". Technical name for "the computer crashed".

If you're able, copy the Panic Log to your clipboard and then paste it here so we can have a look at it. The crash could have been caused by a hardware or software problem. That's why we need to see the log.

If your MBP is still covered by warranty or extended Apple care, it might be a good idea to book an appointed with Apple and have them check it out.

I'm not sure what you mean by "panic log"

If by that you mean the error message then I posted all it said.

Hi! I am sooo excited to see that I'm not the only one with this problem :\ It's so annoying getting this, especially since it happens AT LEAST three times a week. My computer goes into sleep mode and when I "wake" it, this is the message that appears in 5 languages:

"You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button until it turns off, then press the power button again."

Here is the error report I got the last time (I suspect it's pretty much the same every time). I am a complete zero when it comes to computers so any info/advice would be great. Thank you so much!

Krax - sounds as though your video processor might be overheating and causing the system to crash. If the computer is under warranty, I'd take it to an Apple store or repair center and have them evaluate it. It sounds as though the problem is easily replicated by playing a video.

Petrushakaml, your issue appears to be different. Yours looks as though it's an issue with your Core Software. For you, I'd download the 10.6.7 Combo updater and run it to see if the issue smooths out with updated software. Ultimately, it's possible yours could require a full reinstall of the OS.

Thank you evenstranger, I will give it a try! I wish I knew how to "read" those reports *sigh*
