Buying an iMac for video editing

I am thinking of buying an iMac for video editing with the Final Cut Studio suite (Final Cut, Motion, Soundtrack Pro, DVD Studio Pro etc). I already use a Mac OS X, 10.3.9, Dual 1.8 GHz, G5, 2 GB RAM with these programs and it runs them well, my question is this. Will a new iMac with this spec:

2.4GHz Intel
Core 2 Duo
1 or 2GB memory
320GB hard drive1
8x double-layer SuperDrive
ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO with 256MB memory

run these programs well?

They should run just fine. According to some processor/ ram benchmark tests, the 2.4GHz C2D is 2x faster than the dual 1.8GHz.

You really need 2Gb RAM for Final Cut.

Motion

One of the following graphics cards is highly recommended:
ATI Radeon X1900 XT, X850 XT, X800 XT, or X1600
NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT, 6800 Ultra DDL, 6800 GT DDL, or Quadro FX 4500

For 32-bit rendering: a graphics card with 256MB of VRAM or more

Depending on how much you use Motion, and how important the accellerated effects are to you, this may not matter.

4 is recommended for HD when the time comes you want to work on HD footage, if that will change how you feel about your purchase.

I'd suggest buying and iMac G5, I've used them for photo editing and video editing using FCP. They work like a dream, I believe it had 4GB RAM.

You won't regret it...
