Hey everyone,
I want to clean out all the clutter on my hard drive today. I mean anything that I don't need and is just taking up space. I'm worried however that I might get a little carried away and erase important things that could jeopardize my Mac.
how do I go about a SAFE cleaning?
any help is greatly appreciated

Simple:
If it was already installed and there when you got your computer, leave it be.

If you installed it or put it there after you got your computer, then it probably is okay to remove it.

General rule of thumb: If you're not sure about something about the OS or installed stuff.. even the slightest bit uncertain, then don't mess with it.

HD's are big enough these days. The miniscule amount of space that some files take up isn't worth the work it takes to weed through and remove them.
If you are truly worried about space, then get an external drive.
