Way... way too many specs to list.
I have a moshi adapter. Works fine, transmits audio as well as video.

Rather than an adapter (which will still require an HDMI cable), I'd like to suggest this cable:
Kanex Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable 10 ft (3 m)

It's a little pricier than an adapter and a cable, but it's more "elegant" as a single component solution.

Monoprice is indeed good stuff. I didn't go that route because I swap out a cable when I connect my mbp to the tv.. and forgot about that option.

They also have a dongle to use with a HDMI cable for about 7 bucks.

No special software.. Just the extend desktop function. I see it when moving the mouse it's delayed a bit. When I use the VGA signal it's fast like a mouse ^^

PS. to stay on topic here is some really nice info about HMDI and audio support through mini display port.

I haven't noticed it myself - and I've done full HD video out to my TV via the adapter. No issues whatsoever. It could be a quality issue with the adapter. They are not all created equal.
