PowerBook 1.5GHz Question

I am wondering if you have ever seen (or know how to fix) one of the small problems my powerbook has. it has some play in the screen, that is, either way you push it (backward or forward) it moves about one inch freely until it stays in place. i'm not sure if I explained that well but I will attach a quick video of it to show you all more what I mean. this problem actually makes it harder to open because when you hit the latch it doesn't just pop up, instead you need to both hold the latch and lift up on the screen. its also just simply annoying because it will move about an inch in either direction where ever you place it.

It's called the "Clutch Hinge" which is replaceable. I don't know the exact model Powerbook G4 you have...but here's a model that's very close with the replacement instructions:

Installing PowerBook G4 Aluminum 15" 1-1.5 GHz Left Clutch Hinge
Installing PowerBook G4 Aluminum 15" 1-1.5 GHz Right Clutch Hinge

Now you just have to find & purchase replacement parts!

p.s. Of course something may be loose...and just needs some tightening up. But these things do wear out (especially if they've seen a lot of use).

Thanks, but after seeing how much it would take to fix it, I think I can live with the issue. though I will check and see if anything is loose soon.

P.S. I do in fact have the 15" 1.5GHz bluetooth 1.0 model.

Yes...some of the disassemblies can be a bit involved. Unfortunately...to get access to the clutch hinge screws to see if anything is loose...is just about as involved as doing the actual part replacement.

Loose laptop displays are a pain in the neck!
