I want 'Apple Partition' not 'GUID' on my PowerBook G4

I recently put a thread up about getting my PowerBook G4 Hard disk to be seen by my MacBook via Target Disk Mode...

I have managed to be able to see the disk now but when I want to install OS X Leopard onto my PowerBook via my MacBook it says it cant because my PowerBook G4 hard disk isnt 'GUID' partition and to partition it to that.

However, I understand PowerBooks need to be 'Apple Partition' to run the OS.

What can I do so I can install it?

The disk is fine because I used it to install Leopard on an old eMac so no issues with compatibility.

When you boot the Powerbook from the install disk, click (on the top menu) Utilities > Disk Utility. When in there click your HDD then click Erase/ Format (can't remember what its called now), then you can format the disk ready for install.

I cant boot the PowerBook from the install disk as the drive wont read my Dual layer disc.
So thats the reason im doing it through 'Target Disk Mode' with my MacBook.

But if I erase the PowerBooks Hard drive will it give me the option to install using 'Apple Partition'? If I erase it all and it says I can only install using 'GUID partition' im back to square one cos a PPC Mac won't boot with a 'GUID Partition'

Is that the original Install Disc that came with the Powerbook?

its a retail disc so yes it will work! My PowerBook drive does not read Dual layer discs FACT so thats why it does not read it

Please think this thing through again.
When the powerbook is the one in Target mode, the Macbook sees it as just another hard drive. It will try to install the software as if for the Macbook (wrong .kexts, drive format, etc).

You need the Macbook to be in target mode, for the Powerbook to use the Macbook as its CDROM drive. Then the G4 software and drive format will be used.

That's OK. You'd be surprised how often the answer is the opposite.

I don't recall if it's the same in Tiger or Leopard (10.4.x, 10.5.x) but in 10.6.x the GUID, Apple Partition or FAT settings are under the Partition->Options.

It's the same but it won't matter. Because he is trying to install a bootable OS the Macbook thinks the partition has to be GUID because it's an Intel Mac and it assumes that the disc it is installing to will be used to boot an Intel Mac.
