Trying to view powerpoint on iMac

Is there any way to view a powerpoint presentation on my iMac without having to purchase iWorks? Thanks.

iPad Pro 12.9 latest iOS
OpenOffice or NeoOffice will both open Powerpoint files
Even simpler, select the .ppt file in finder and press the spacebar.

In what OS does this work McBie? I've tried it in Tiger, and space bar simply moves to the next item.
