Super Speed RAM?

Hello, a friend of mine was asking me whether or not the macbook pro supports a super speed ram? i had no clue....

help?

You mean DDR? The only thing I can think of is he is referring to the clock speed of the memory or the data rate (DDR, DDR2, etc...)

If he is referring to clockspeed, the Macbook Pro supports 667MHz DDR2 (PC2-5300) ONLY. Putting higher speed memory into one may work, but the machine will just downclock the memory to 5300 speeds.

If he is referring to overclocking the memory; again the answer is no. As far as I know modern macs do not provide any means to adjust clock speeds, voltages, or timings on memory or processors.

Low latency RAM will work though. Most RAM is rated "5" but low latency is rated "4" and can speed up processes from what I have read.

maybe he meant ram with speed of 800 mhz or higher (btw...as a question on the side...there is ram with higher speed than 800 right? i kinda remember reading that somewhere)

Oh yeah. There is DDR3 running at 2000+

Thing is if the mac he has only runs DDR2-667 or DDR2-533, putting DDR2-800 in it is a waste because it will just downclock it to the proper speed.
