MacBook Pro 13', year old suggestions on drive

Hello friends

Was looking for some recommendations on my MacPro 13'

i have the HL-DT-ST DVDRW GS23N drive that came with my device.

I am disappointed to find out that it does not support DualLayer writing.

I was looking for a DL drive and if i could also find one that supports lightscribe technology. I had that on my old pc laptop and i liked it.

I am also looking to upgrade my hard drive to a bigger drive but i am scared to get one that is noisy. The drive that comes with the mac is nice and quiet.

i am pretty sure this is my machine with the 2.53 processor but it says that it comes with a DL drive .. not sure why on my laptop it is showing that it is not...

Unless the optical drive was changed out at one time for a replacement that does not support DL, it should support it. Even my old MacBook from 2008 has a drive that supports DL read and write.

Open your System Profiler app and click on Disk Burning. What does it say?

Can't say that I've ever heard of an internal lightscribe drive that will fit inside an MBP, so I'll let someone else tackle that one if indeed your MBP won't handle DL.

As for the HDD, I just installed a 750GB Western Digital Scorpio Black in my 2011 13" MBP. Runs 7200rpm. No heat issues and can't hear it spinning even when I try. Great speed; great capacity; and I believe a 5 yr. warranty. Can't ask for anything more from a notebook HDD.

wow i am confused .. as u can see from my first post i posted this same info and it did not say DL at that time ... now when i checked ... as u can see above it does say DL ...

only thing i did was reset computer since last night....

well i guess it is DL compatible .. now i just need to buy some DL disks .. .any recommendations .. i know some people have issues with certain brands ... isnt the -R the way to go .. they are more compatible with DVD players?

that sounds awesome ... thats about triple then what i have now and the i see it even spins faster ... happy to hear that it is not noisy ... that is one thing i loves about this mac that the fan and drive are so quiet ,,,, can use in bed with wife sleeping ... my HP laptop sounds like its going to take off with its fan.

can u direct me to that drive?

i think i have a 3rd generation macbook pro .. there are no removable batteries and the KB lights up .. i have to google how to change the drive on this thing ...
