What is "Classic" for my new imac?

What exactly would I install for "Classic" in my brand new imac?

Is this OS 9.?

Is it called "classic"?

Will my old 8.6 work?

Is this a new Intel iMac? If so, no classic Mac OS will install. Sorry. The last Mac to run Classic OS was the G5's. Most all the G4's except the very last models will boot from say Mac OS9.

YES, This is a brand new and latest 24" screen imac. (don't know if its intel).

So, this one does not take any classic programs?

All Macs now use Intel CPU's. Classic was only for the Power PC architecture.

if you really want to use classic, i read there is a way around it with an app called 'sheep saver'.

unless someone has a really old mac that wont run osx, I cant imagine why anyone would bother running classic or os 8, 9. ?

I used OS 7,8,9 for years... but when OSX came out, it took some time, but i'm hooked on OSX.... no way would I go back to pre osX.

Some wonderful apps never made it onto OS X, and we need to use them (I keep an iMac G3 with Mac OS 8.6 around for that purpose) and some just like the classic OS's more then OS X.

i love os x. but i also really like os 9.
i actually plan on getting an imac with os 9 shortly. i also have a powermac with 7.5 on it that i use quite often.

Yeah, on a similar note some wonderful beta tape car stereos never made it to new production cars, and we need to use them, so awful, ugly vehicles with poor economy from the 80's are the way to go and some just like old awful cars more than new ones.
