okay. i don't know what the issue is here.
I have it so the display shuts off after, like, 7 minutes.
I keep the computer running cuz i still have my AIM on and whatnot. Anywho, when i used to do this, the little white light on the computer would turn on for an instant, then fade out. Now whenever the monitor is off, the light comes on and STAYS on. It's quite an abrasive light. What's going on here? I just got my power source replaced. Please don't tell me it's happening again.

when the display is set to go off after a certain time and the computer is not set to go to sleep after a certain time, then the light will stay on when the computer actually goes to sleep (HDD stops running) then the light will pulse

The light comes on when the display is off, so you know the machine is still on. I'd guess it wasn't working right if it used to go off while the machine was still on.

There's also a light sensor in there - if the room is dark the light will dim. I had hours of fun because I have 100 watt daylight bulbs, and I was making the light dim and brighten by positioning the shadow of my hand over it.

What? What's wrong with that?

It's the same as mine, so yes, but I'm not sure if it works when it's sleeping. Shine a torch at it. IT certainly does when the display is off.
