Just bought a clear plastic swivel stand for the eMac. It fastens with three screws to the bottom. However, the foremost single screw (between the front feet) (which has to be removed) gave me about three tries before it stripped. (Allen wrench female part). Question is: has anyone out there ever taken the cover off the eMac in order to see the inside of this screw? Wonder if the screw is sticking thru to the inside in order to get a hold of it there and remove it. Otherwise, how can that screw be removed? BTW, this screw head is more than 1/2" in diameter with a very small Allen wrench hole in it. Any mechanics out there with advise how I can get a hold of this thing and turn it? Maybe drilling a second hole and using a pair of needle nose pliers to turn it with? The Allen part seems to be very soft steel and so are all my Allen wrenches. Rounding them off takes no force at all.
Been getting a lot of help on this forum and sincerely hope to find more this time. - Thanks

G'day from across the Tas. You need a specific driver for those eMac screws, one called a T10. I suggest you buy a case of specialised drivers. I bought the Promark brand Bitset with 100 drivers, most of which I'll never use :D but when I've needed something for security screws etc, it's been a boon.

Next thing: visit these sites for an eMac manual, the real McCoy http://home.earthlink.net/~strahm_s/manuals.html#imcs and http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/170252.html

Failing any of the above, you may need to drill out the damaged screw, and if so, I don't envy you. I hope you've got a good drill clamp or press. Accuracy will be essential.

Brumby, I don't know how you got on with getting inside your eMac to extract the errant screw, but when investigating replacing my eMac's optical drive I came across the attachment. It gives good instructions and photos about working inside. It may be of help to you now and in the future. Cheers.
