In retrospect selling 10% stake in Apple for $800 has to go in the books as one of the worst financial decisions of all time.

Almost as dumb as when Seattle Computing sold DOS to Microsoft for a song. :p

Agreed with both. SCP sold DOS to MS for $50k. Small considering what MS made off it.

Well, let's be fair ... he couldn't foresee what would happen. If you guys were even ALIVE in those days, I can say with great confidence that you probably blew $800 or more on stuff where you ended up with nothing to show for it. For me, it was Donkey Kong. :)

I was alive and well; same age as founders.

Also, really wasn't ragging on the guy . . . just makes me feel better about the bad financial decisions I've made. ;)

Oh I hear THAT!

I bought Apple stock at $13 or so a share got maybe $10K worth (it was a long time ago now). When it hit $42 I thought "that's it, it can't possibly go much higher" and sold it (very healthy profit obviously). Nice, right?

Then it split -- twice -- and those shares would now be worth, what, a million and a half or so? More?

I can't think about it too hard, so forgive the sloppy math. Still, I'm happy with what I got and glad I was out of the stock market by the mid-2000s, so I'm not complaining too much.

That's exactly the sort of thing I was talking about. With all the stock turmoil I have had a tendency to beat myself up over the millions I didn't make.
Seeing this for some reason helps put it in perspective and move on.

Bottomline: you have to do what seems wise at the time and then move on. :)
