My iMac 18.GHZ G5 20" OS 10.5.8 is kinda slow (Word, PowerPoint, iTunes, browsing). My Apple Store friend said they're all just like that, that hard drive access is still the bottleneck.

But he also said he thought things would be better with 4GB memory. Crucial tells me the 2GB installed is the "maximum"-so what happens if I put in more? Just not recognized? Usually about 10-15% of my 2GB is still free if I have a lot of applications open, with a chunk more wired and a big chunk inactive.

And, are there any good RAMdrive options for Mac these days? (Maybe run from a USB dongle or something...)

2gig of ram is the max for that computer. If you need more speed...upgrading to a faster computer is the answer.

And PowerPC G5's are slipping further and further behind alas. Save your money on extras for the G5 and put it towards an Intel machine.

New Macbook

Hi I have just got a new macbook (early 2009 model) and I just wanted to know whether the current 2gb of ram is positioned on the inside of the computer, leaving the 2 slots under the battery free? I have bought 2 x 1gb sticks of ram and was just wondering whether this was the correct move?

No, that would not be the correct move. The 2 GB in the computer occupy the only 2 slots available on any MacBook produced to date.
