Well, my iMac is up and running! I love it. Lost a few music files in my transfer but I am just reloading them.

I did not transfer all my bookmarks so I am slowly rebuilding those. I want to listen to my favorite NFL team's local radio station online and when I do I get a message that I have to download microsoft silverlight to listen to it.

My question is this: is this safe? Should I expect any problems?

I believe the answer to both is NO. But I figured I would check here before I do download it.

Should be fine. I had to use it with something (Netflix, Boxee, or something) and it was no big deal.

I'd actually go with a "Yes" on the first one. It's safe.

Silverlight is Microsoft's "embedded multimedia thing" like Adobe Flash. There's nothing particularly special about it.

Except it provides a layer of DRM for the content providers.

I've been using it for Netflix - haven't used it since upgrading to 10.6, so not sure if it's compatible there yet.

I never had to install that to watch netflix online... Unless my fiancée did it without telling me the first time she used it.

Yep, you'll find it hiding out in your Mac HD / Library / Application Support / Microsoft.

Weird. She claims she didn't, but there it is. Either way, whatever. Complete set of Fawlty Towers... woohoo! Go Netflix!
