• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Final Cut -- split screens?

Does Final Cut Express offer an option/effect to do split screens?

Yes, It allows you to do all effects that you could do that require multilayers

I took a video class a year ago, but I've aleady forgotten the basics. So, how do I cut up and split video on the timeline?

Also, do I really have to render the video every time I adjust an effect?

Let's say I have video on timeline 2 and .jpg's on timeline 1. How do I go about meshing those two together?

I suggest you read the tutorial that came in the box. There are tutorials online that could be helpful too.

As for effects, depends on the version.

It's not so much a question of effects, but rather having to render each time I add a new clip, change an effect, etc. In other words, if I've already rendered the clip, why do I have to re-render if I move it around?

This article explains how to fix my problem; however, I can't seem to figure our or don't have the option to create a custom preset (which, for me, is going to be a 640x480 frame rate)

If you are having to render each time you add a clip to FC, then I suggest you first convert it to something like DV format with Linear PCM audio at 48kHz. FC likes that. This will not help with having to render effects.

If your version of FC has RT Extreme, then depending on your hardware and type of effect, you may not have to render until you export.

You haven't given enough information for further discussion.

Final Cut Pro: "Dropped frames" issue

How do I do the following to fix the dropped frames issue:

Reduce the playback video quality and frame rate in the RT pop-up menu in the Timeline or in the Playback Control tab of the System Settings window.

Play your sequence using the Unlimited RT mode instead of the Safe RT mode.

Choose Play Base Layer Only from the RT pop-up menu.

Render any clips whose render status bars indicate they can't be played in real time before you play them back.

Turn off external video monitoring.

Using audio in Final Cut Pro

When using audio in Final Cut, I understand you need 48khz 16 bit in the .dv file. Using MPEG Streamclip, how do I get the audio compatiable with Final Cut? For example, I've found how to make it 48khz but not 16 bit, which is making it unrenderable in Final Cut. Thank you.

I'm not sure if this helps, but for my projects (commercials) I use music I buy the rights too and convert them to AAC. Im not overly savy on the audio portion of FCP.

Why isn't my movie's audio playing in Final Cut?

I rendered the clip, the video plays fine, but I cannot get the audio portion to play. What am I doing wrong?

Copy/paste Final Cut tracks

How come everytime I copy/paste a clip, it goes straight to the first track? I'm trying to get it on the second, but it won't budge.
