I have steam and I recently realized that left 4 Dead 1 & 2 are steamplay (runs on PC and MAC) but the mac system requirements are osx 10.6.

My question is should I go and buy 10.6 or should I just get a new computer?

My computer specs are:

osx 10.5.8
Processor 2.66 Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory 2 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Graphics card = ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro

L4D(1&2) system requirements are:

OS: MacOSX 10.6.4 or higher (Snow Leopard Graphics Update Required)
Processor: Dual Core Intel Processor, 2GHz or better
Video Card: ATI Radeon 2400 or higher/ NVDIA 8600M or higher

Thanks for your Input!

Why not at 29.00 its a cheap upgrade but I would bump the ram to 4gb.

So basically $29.00 or a few hundred dollars? A bit like asking whether or not to get a new bathroom suite or a new house! ;)
I would take osxx's advice and upgrade to SL at only $29.00 it really isn't much at all, it will run with 2GB RAM but it will run alot smoother with 4GB, RAM + SL = still cheaper than a new computer :)

Same here...get the $29 10.6 OS install disk...do the install...and see how it goes. A 2.66ghz Core2Duo is no slow poke...although depending on what games you play...the Radeon 2600 graphics might not be enough.

A new computer is sure as heck going to cost you a bunch...so it all really depends on how serious you are about your gaming...and what sort of $$$ budget you have.

My only question is, at $29, why haven't you already upgraded?

Like the others SL and 4GB memory and it will seem like a new computer.

SL is a much faster, leaner cat the Leopard, and with that extra memory wow!

Thanks for the Input everyone. @Pigoo3 I have around $1200 in my savings account to spend on something random but I think I will go with SL and 4GB ram

Going with the SL upgrade for $29 & adding 4 gig of ram will help...but if your iMacs Radeon 2600 graphics are on the "weak" side for some games...then only a newer computer will help.

But on the other hand...if the games you play run ok or acceptable with the Radeon 2600 graphics...great!:)

As of right now it handles all of the games on orange box in high/medium settings, besides Team Fortress 2 I run it on low because its laggy on high or medium but I think thats a poor internet connection.

Well...then it all returns back to your original question in post#1. And of course the answer is...go with the OS 10.6 upgrade for $29 bucks.

Why would you ever want to buy a $1200-$1500 computer to solve the problem...when $29 bucks will take care of things???;)

I do have a question about audio because when a lot is going on in TF2 or HL2 the audio will cut out for a second. If I lower the audio quality on the game it cuts out less and also it cuts out less if I lower the visual quality. So I was worried because L4D2 has higher graphic card requirements then TF2 or HL2.

But after a couple updates TF2 and HL2 have a lot less audio cut outs so i wasn't sure if it was my computer just making it by on what Im running with or if I should just get a new one.
