Hi, I hope someone can help me.

I've just installed 4 x 512MB inside a 1.8GHz Power Mac G5. Yet for some reason, it is only recognizing each stick as 256 MB, making the total RAM recognized 1GB. Which isn't the end of the world, but not what I was aiming for! I have 2 from Kingston and two from Crucial. Before, the Mac had the 2 x 128MB it came with along with 2 512MB yet it only recognized the total memory as 768MB.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance!

i believe that PowerMac G5's have to have the memory installed in a certain order (i.e. the slots are labeled 1, 2, 3, 4.) so if you buy pairs of RAM, they have to go in corresponding slots. (i.e. if you buy 4 sticks of RAM they have to go in slots 1:1, and 2:2) i don't think you can put them all on one side. maybe double-check and see if they are installed correctly. hope i explained it good enough.

Thanks all, it was my first time inside a Mac, so it's likely that I may have put them in the wrong place! I'll take a look at those links and have a look at the order of the sticks and let you know how I got on.
