1. Not sure if there are any slot loading drives that will fit

2. OS X doesn't support blu ray. The only program that I know does is Toast and that is only to burn them.

What about on external Blue Ray devices? If I purchased an external Blue Ray reader/burner which came with it's own software (or even if I had Toast), would OS X support that drive?

Toast will work with external blu-ray devices, but again, only to burn and read them. You won't be able to play Blu-ray movies.

Take a look at what Other World Computing has to offer. They sell several Blue Ray burner -players with software that will work on your MBP. I'm not sure of exactly what's supported but you can always call them on their toll free line and speak to a tech support person. They have excellent support for everything they sell.

Here is the LINK.

Bummer. I'm in the process of updating my 2008 MB with more storage and Lion. I was hoping to purchase an external blue-ray drive and back up my blue-ray movies to my local drive and watch them on the go. :Not-Amused:
