Official apps as in those available from the App Store? If so, why would you need to jailbreak the device? Jailbreaking is done usually to put apps not from the App Store that is tested by Apple.

Well that's an important piece of info you should have included in your original post. Apps tend to usually limit themselves to certain version of iOS/tvOS/watchOS, so if your Gen 2 can run the version of tvOS that the app you want to run needs, then it should work. If not, then the app won't run for various reasons.
