"your system has been infected with 3 viruses"
I have been getting this popup every few days for about 3 weeks. I realize it is not a virus and I have been tolerating it and just closing out the window (ie not following it's instructions). How can I locate the culprit and get rid of it.

Malwarebytes does not detect any issues.

Always best to indicate what you've tried so that we can tell you what other things to try.

Does it only happen when you open a browser, if so which browser, or all browsers? Or, does it happen at specific or random times?

I use Safari exclusively and it happens randomly, sometimes not for 3 or 4 days.

Is it happening at a particular site or several??

Make note of the site address' when it pops up.

Using Mackeeper, antivcirus software or CleanMyMac?
Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

Make sure you have Quit out of Safari (command + Q). Then press and hold Shift and click to open Safari, then you can release Shift. See if that helps.
