In this particular case, it just showed as departing Valencia, CA, then three "In Transits to next facility" and nothing. Then yesterday and today a flurry of sorting, out for delivery, finally "Delivered" from my local post office. In between, it originally had an expected delivery date of last Monday, but it actually arrived on Friday, with no explanation of why the added four days. So who knows where this thing has gone? The package was unopened, sealed from the sender, so nobody inspected it or delayed it for that sort of nonsense. Just a First Class shipment that took 10 days to cross the country. Must have taken the scenic route, maybe stopped over at a relative's place for a couple of days to play with the cousins.

    Hey Jake....

That's why they call it "snail mail". LOL. Hey, I know it can be frustrating but glad to hear you finally received it.

Where is that picture of a Snail I have! Grin

I have had very similar issues here with USPS. Some of the tracking makes no sense but on some orders had the item get here from the east coast in 1-2 days! My favorite overall over the years has been FEdEx.

Great to hear your package arrived Jake...and arrived ok. Albeit longer than expected.

Also, the USPS estimate of delivery date is a joke, and the tracking system is pretty much useless.

Just be thankful you're not stuck with Canadapost for offshore shipments but they're stuck because of Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA)!!

I've been trying to get delivery info on an epackage from China that arrived in Burnaby June 30, but they have to send it to Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) to check and and clearance and there's no way to access any info from them. It's like the CIA!!!

The tracking info shows a blue ? that's "in transit" and "Expected delivery 2018/07/06".

That's 16 days now from a place that's only a day away at most!!!

Thank gosh it's not a battery!!

They have no control on it, It was common problem specially if they don't own a delivery transport but only a delivery system that connected to those courier and it only give a location where the package and the status, this type of service has a 50 / 50 tendency to be delayed specially if it's far away / abroad plus those people who'll manage the package sometimes had a hard time getting it, one rule that I know when I ordered an item across a country is to check whether if that x.x company has branch on my country, if it has one I'll ordered it quickly.

I know they have no control once it's in the shipper hands. What was deceiving was that the shipper clearly had a delivery date set, but missed by almost a week. And during that week, the shipper didn't update the tracking information. When I contacted iFixit, I got a basic email saying, essentially, "Too bad." That wasn't good. But then I got contacted by a more helpful guy who actually offered a reasonable solution. Fortunately, the package arrived (5 days late), so the solution wasn't needed. No international borders, no customs to clear, nothing but a cross country trip that should have taken about 5 days and took 10.

At least you got your shipment Jake, as my ePacket from China, at least according to its tracking number (and several inquiring phone calls by myself) arrived at Canada June 30 and was passed off to Canada Border Services Agency (ie: Canada Customs) later the same day.
According to the tracking, that's where it sits but Customs says they haven't got it as do Canada Post, and neither know where it is and it seems no other way to check other than to wait.

But as far as they're concerned, its only been two weeks (working days counted only)

Maybe one day it might show up. Hopefully.

I have read of some similar packets taking several months.

At least its not coming from the US with the current Trade War and hundreds of items affected.

PS: I got some similar items from China delivered "normally" over the last two months.

Wow, Patrick, that is really strange (and bad). For me it wasn't so much that it was delayed because that happens sometimes. It was that the so-called "tracking" service stopped updating on the day it was supposed to deliver. Up till then, the tracking system seemed to be following it, then it just disappeared for 5 days until suddenly it showed up at a large distribution location about 40 miles away and then was delivered the next day.

In your case nobody wants to admit they have it. That's ugly. I wonder if it's sitting in some processing center (centre) on a shelf with 10,000 others that are being sloooooooooowly checked?

I don't think I've ever successfully tracked a USPS package. It just shows up...when it feels like showing up. lol

The USPS tracking system is terrible. It's certainly well short of being as good as the UPS and Fed Ex tracking.

Nick, it actually did track. I could see it entered in the system, then picked up at one location in CA, moved to another, then departed that one. At that point it was still showing a delivery date that iFixit had given to me. Then on the date of delivery, nothing. Five days later, arrived. Twilight Zone.

That's what I mean Jake. Sure...everything tracked (it took the path it was supposed to). Problem was it didn't end up at your door on the date it was supposed to...and that arrival date is certainly the most important data point to any customer. That's why the USPS tracking system (or the handling system) is unreliable.

USPS does seem to deliver first class letters just fine. But ship something via a slower-cheaper method like it sounds like this package was...and who knows what happens.

I know with the UPS or Fed Ex tracking systems...if a package is delayed or will not arrive on the date that was promised...you get some sort of message that says (package delayed...adjusted delivery date...etc.). USPS tracking system doesn't seem to have that ability (to update the delivery date if it has changed)...because the USPS system I don't think know's where a package is or when it will arrive to provide an adjusted or accurate delivery date.

That's the worst part, in not knowing where in hell it is in the process — if it is actually …

I got the distinct impression that Canada Post and Canada Customs checkers don't exactly get along very well, and probably because CP gets the blame for many such delays and has an easy to call help line whereas the Customs keeps their access quite hidden.
Even the CP guy told me that if the Customs help line person says they don't have the parcel, then ask to speak to a supervisor!!! Unfortunately I wasn't able to get that far.

Anyway, here's todays tracking diagram, and the blue ? dangling and stuck mid-air seems appropriate in this case I guess:
