Well, the way I see it, you don't need to have one until, say July.

So save up the cash now, and see how the MBP situation looks in June/july.
If the driver issues have been sorted, it should run just as well as a dell/hp/etc...

If they haven't, you can always go out and pick up a decent Windows laptop.
Sony's Vaio series are nice, but IBM's/Lenovo's Thinkpad's are supposed to be very solid as well...

IBM's notebooks are very good. I would go for one of those. When it was time for me to buy my notebook, it was between a PowerBook and a ThinkPad, I chose the PowerBook but still, IBM is a very respectable company with wuality products.

Well I just found out from my college that I would have no problem getting a MacBook Pro, which makes me very happy. Now the question is should I wait until closer to when school starts, which is on August 21, or should I just buy it now? Does anyone think that there will be any major changes between now and August?

Even if there were no/VERY small changes I would still wait untill about August 1st to buy it, why not, NOTHING bad, only GOOD could come from waiting, righ? So why not wait? I would wait and buy it in August.

I would wait. I assume you have heard about Apple's new Boot Camp beta, that will come built in on Leopard. Maybe Leopard will be out by then and you can get the full version of Boot Camp, but if not, the beta should still be fine for a while.

Yeah, definately wait for the MBP for sometime around early August, as they'll have fixed any bugs by then.

The problem here is that still thinks the old rules aaplies, which may not be the case. I don't think the Intel processors will change as much as the PPC processor did. So it is possible in August you will see the same MacBook Pro as there is now, but the MacBook or Mac Tower may be out by then. I don't except many updates until the whole line is updated.

If you need a windows based mac, get something by HP. if you can get away with an amd turion chip in it get this

http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/uk/en/sm/WF25a/21675-283229-283229-283229-297845-12225406.html

its a business level notebook so its tuff wearing, nice and clear tft, finger print reader, blue tooth, wireless, vga, easily upgradeable and the best thing of all.

CHEAP

then just get some extra memory, but 2gb seems a little exessive for a windows based notebook. im yet to find a pc app that says it requires 2gb of memory.
