    I'm new to mac as well.. my connectivity sucks too. Luckily it was my fault, I've got a baby cam, and a complete come security cam system.. turns out it was all on 2.4Ghz, causing interference. Maybe you just need to move over to the 5Ghz band mac seems to like that.

    Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!
