It's the Memorial Day holiday here in the US where we honor the memory of those who served our country.

Just wanted to say thank you for your service to all the men and women who served their country whether it be here in the US or elsewhere.

    Thanks!

    On thanks.
I've always wanted to be smart, handsome and modest. But, I guess I'll have to be satisfied with two out of three . . .

Here our vets day is Anzac Day 25 April.
Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

I believe that Anzac Day is more analogous to Veterans Day (11, Nov in the US.. previously Armistice Day).

Memorial Day began as a day to commemorate those killed in action during the American Civil War. This is why it is tradition for the President to place a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery. So the same as Remembrance Day in Commonwealth countries.

As I understand it Anzac day marks the anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli?

A little bit of American history here: The Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia was once the property of the Gen Robert E. Lee family. The US (Union) confiscated it after the Civil War, however, the Lee family sued and was finally paid for the land.

That's Interesting. I knew where the land came from but did not know they had sued for compensation and won.

Edit: The old brain kept telling me that the land was taken during the Civil War. In the process of finding that answer I found a few other interesting tidbits http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arlingt...ional_Cemetery

If I'm not mistaken, Veterans Day is intended to honor living veterans, while Memorial Day is intended to honor those who have died, particularly if while serving.

You're correct. Very few people seem to make that distinction anymore.

Correct. Memorial Day is for the fallen.

Yep, which is why Veterans Day is more like Anzac Day than Remembrance Day.
