Interesting. I wasn't aware that they changed the law. M4's are not sold or resold to civilians, even military personal and law enforcement. The military discontinued allowing war-fighting arms to be retained off base in 1993 a la Clinton. All private citizens are prohibited from personally owning fully automatic weapons manufactured after 1986 a la Reagan. Non-military governmental agencies may obtain and issue to their employees, but retain ownership and estate custody. It must have been an interesting purchase.

ATF Online - Firearms - National Firearms Act (NFA)

A 1928 Thompson runs about $17,000 for one in average to OK condition. That's quite an impressive acquisition. Good luck. ;)

The serial number on the lower on the M4 is pre 1986 :)

The Thompson I am looking at has NEVER been fired. Its still packed in the original factory oil. Guy is asking $23,000. I'm willing to pay $20,000 so we're trying to work something out.

Interesting. The BATFE guys I've hung out with explained to me it was the $13,000 pre-86 DIAS whose serial number was of concern. More so if someone was not license FFL III/SOT. If you are running a pre-86 lower receiver, I hope you don't suffer a catastrophic failure related to putting the newer M4 upper on it. If it's a pre-86 lower, then it's Colt which doesn't use the same pins as any other manufacturer. They just can't be made to line up due to placement and diameter. How did you deal with that hurdle? Inquiring minds want to know. I'm guessing this is a Frankengun and not an actual M4?

Its definitely a frankengun with parts from various manufacturers. All high quality parts but still, a frankengun. You hit the nail on the head.

I went to the range earlier today to fire my newly acquired Steyr Aug. She fires just as beautifully as she looks :) Time to add a viridian green laser to her and possible a trijicon scope.

I have got to set aside some time next weekend and take my pistols to the range I used
to do this once a month for years but so many projects and hobbies slowed that down.

Glock 23.

Never was a finer all-purpose-bullet-delivery-system (APBDS) made.

This sidearm could be full of cow poop, sand, motor oil and human blood and still fire every single round in the clip accurately and with no fear of misfire whatsoever.

Cleaning!? Cleaning is for fun, to alleviate boredom, to accompany whiskey consumption but mostly for people who don't own a Glock.

a day at my boss' gun "range

We fired over 1200 rounds in two hours at about 200 beer bottles set-up from 50-200 yards. Then we started making molotolv cocktails filled with gasoline and shooting them. Talk about an explosion!

And we're doing it all over again tomorrow hahaha!

I'm not sure how guns fit into a Mac-Forum, but if you're going to talk about it, keep it to this thread ;)

If you need more variety, a gun forum may be more appropriate.

Ok let me spell it out more clearly since you're having difficulty.

This is a Mac forum, for Apple enthusiasts. We have this forum here for social and other topics. But, that doesn't meant we need to allow anything to be posted in any way.

Guns are a divisive topic. We don't need multiple gun threads given the divisive nature and the fact it really only is applicable to a small number of members.

So sure you can continue to argue with me about it, but ultimately that's probably a bad idea and isn't going to be very productive for you.
