I like NewEgg.com and Zipzoomfly.com. But what I would recommend is that you choose a particular make and model first and then use Pricegrabber.com to search that model number out for the best price.

deanomcd,

I agree with Newegg. That's where I bought my Western Digital Passport external hard drive. They are inexpensive, compact and run on the USB cable without any other power source. Great little backup devices.

Check them out here, especially lower on the page, a 320GB for $136 shipped!! Fantstic price for that size!! Also, make sure you scroll down the page to see them all...

The other option is, of course, to buy the bare drive and put it in your own enclosure. I use one of those also. Look at Newegg for the BYTECC USB enclosures. I got one for $25...

Another vote for Newegg.com. They always seem to have the best prices, fast shipping, and excellent customer service.

Way... way too many specs to list.
I agree with both newegg and zipzoomfly. I've used both for thousands of dollars of orders over the last 5 years or so.

the hard drives are screened for quality and the very best to to vendors dell, hp etc.

second best goes to the longer warranty situations in the open market like newegg, amazon, zipzoomfly. buy the longest warranty you can.

balance hard drive size with the price you can afford. hard drive manufacturers will not update firmware on a drive that is sold at rock bottom pricing and being phased out, on the other hand the very latest hard drive may have un told firmware errors and be expensive.

i use newegg and or zipzoomfly and buy seagate brand drives.

I go with newegg. But I also check sales as local stores like Circuit City. Sometimes the makers come out with a new enclosure design and sell the old style cheap. The drive inside is exactly the same, which is all that matters.
