    GRUB error 17, help!
i had to switch out my monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers this past week. i was in between the two setups for about a week and a half. sometime between then switch some kind of problem popped up. i turn on the computer and it wont go past the start up screen. so i open up the case, make sure everything is plugged in and secure. i start it again, still wont go past the startup screen. then i open her up again, take out one of my sticks of ram (dont ask why, just had a hunch). i start her up again and she gets going and makes it to the windows screen then restarts on its own. at this point im like,"WTF?!?!?!?!" when she starts up again its says GRUB error 17. when i put that stick back in it doesnt say that but it says it cant boor from disk and to put a restore disc in. i think ima put that stick back in and try to reinstall, if it doesnt work i will need lots of help, ill keep you posted

Well, I looked it up - here is the scoop on error 17

Grub error 17 : Cannot mount selected partition
This error is returned if the partition requested exists, but the
filesystem type cannot be recognized by GRUB.

Sounds bad. You would appear to have file system corruption. I might suggest booting a live CD of a linux distro and firing up QtParted to see what it has to say about the partition table and general health of your hard drive.
