help! ive just been given an old performa 630 with system 7.5.5 which i am using as a stepping stone to convert from pc to mac. ive found loads of compatible software using the broadband on my pc but when i copy them to cd and put them into the mac nothing works. i either get a message saying that the program that created the files is missing or there is nothing to associate the files with.
i have tried to install several different versions of stuffit and alladin etc but they wont work either. even the browser software is missing on the system.
is there any way i can copy these files from my pc to my mac using cd as i have no access to the internet on the mac.
the files i would like to have access to are mp3,avi and jpeg so i need to install the appropriate software to use them...

if anyone can help it would be most appreciated
    cheers
    az mansell
p.s. i have been given no disks all i have is what is on the hdd

Stuffit Expander is a must. Make sure to get the older version (5.5). Compatability for Mac OS 7.1.1 through 8.0.

QuickTime 4.1.2 should take care of opening any image or video (mpg and mov).

you might also want to check Older Software Downloads on Apple's site.

im running an old PPC 7300 with both OS 8.6 and Yellow Dog linux 2.2. OS 8.6 is a great OS for older Apples. there is also more software available for 8.6 than 7.5

    Question
ive just tried those links but to no effect. when i put the cd into my mac the icons look "empty"
and they are not associated with anything...
i tried to download stuffit yesterday and i noticed a comment that said "yes, you need stuffit expander to unpack stuffit expander" - weird!

do you think the last owner deleted certain programs or files that he didnt need. quite alot of files come up saying they are "moved or missing" but a search brings up nothing... im just going round in a big circle!

    cheers,

what are you using to burn the CDs? and also, make sure you are formatting them right since Mac OS 7.5.5 uses a different file system than Windows, so that is most likely while nothing appears

there shouldnt be a problem of what youre burning, but the format youre burning it to. There should be an option of what format the CD you're burning. I always burn data where its Hybrid (so both Mac and PC can read it). that it probably what youll want to do. you could also burn it just for the mac since you probably wont need the cd on the PC

Nero is the best thing ive ever used on Windows. I use Toast 5.2 on OS X.2, but the Adaptec easy burn on windows isnt near as good as Toast is for Mac. Both however are able to make a hybrid cd as well as the other formats seperate
