    Problem with opening zip files
    Hello guys!
I have a zip archive which doesn't open and the files are not extracted. I think it was damaged due to a virus which I got by downloading a program from an unreliable website. Even Windows crashed and I had to reinstall. so now what can I do to fix this archive?

    Specs:
    iMac, i7 4GHz, 32GB memory, 1TB Flash Storage, OS X.12.5.
I would suggest you Trash it if it came from a pirate site.
Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

Please do the following to attempt to do recovery zip file:
    1. Open an administrator Command Prompt window
    Windows 10 and Windows 8.1
    1. Right click the start button
    2. Click Command Prompt (Admin)
    3. Windows 7 and Windows Vista
    4. Click Start, click All Programs, and click Accessories
    5. Right click Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator
    2. Change directories to the folder where the corrupted Zip file is located
    3. Type: "CProgram Files\WinZip\wzzip" -yf zipfile.zip
    4. Press Enter on the keyboard

Substitute the actual drive letter and folder where WinZip is installed if different than above and also use the real Zip file name in the place of zipfile.zip. The double quotes in the example above are necessary due to thespace between "Program" and "Files".

For a split or spanned Zip file, use the following command instead:
    "CProgram Files\WinZip\wzzip" -yfs zipfile.zip
Also I would like to assist you regarding this issue.

Please download demo version ZIP Recovery Toolbox from the following link http://www.oemailrecovery.com/zip_recovery.html
Install it & try to recover corrupt zip file using it.

Let me know how it goes.

Yes, there might be a chance that your zip file is attacked by the viruses that corrupted your file.
Why don't you try SysInfo Zip Recovery Software? I have tried this software and worked well on my corrupted ZIP files.

Try 7-Zip, it's free and the best windows Zip program available. FYI, in the past I never had any luck using WinZip on some Zip files.

If 7-Zip can't open it it's most likely a damaged Zip file:

Don't download as it is a Windows and Linux compatible software only!

Download YemuZip for Mac OS X.9 and later if you must open .zip files:-
