i need to enable Macros in excel HELP!!!

iMac 2008 running OS X snow leopard 10.6.8
I have a database that i want to use. I believe it was done for windows 2007. I have excel 2008 and i need to enable macros.
I am sure there is a fix i just dont know how to go about it. Please help.

The file i am tring to open is a .xlsm file

To my knowledge (happy to be corrected), there was no VBA (i.e. macro) support for Office 2008 for Mac.

I believe it's been re-instated for Office 2011.

The "fix" is as advised by mrplow. Buy Office 2011. VBA has been reinstated.
