The main thing that I use Windows for on my Macbook Pro 13 is for gaming. I have been having a problem recently where my games go extremely slowly after about 15 mins and have to be minimised for about 5 mins before they will work properly again. I used PC Wizard 2009 to display the temperatures and fan speeds of my computer and I discovered that my games stop working properly after the Graphics card temperature goes over 90˚C. PC wizard is also showing that the exhaust fan is not revving up above 2000rpm however hot the computer gets. I know that the base speed for the fan is 2000rpm as this is what istat pro shows under OSX when the computer is at idle. When I play games under OSX the fan revs up to about 3500rpm - 4000rpm when the CPU starts to get hot. Is the fan not speeding up a fault in Bootcamp or is there a problem with my hardware / drivers?

Overheating will result in a shutdown. In your case, the temps are running within the operating specs of the GPU. Is Boot Camp up to date? Which version of Windows are you running?

I did have the latest version of boot camp but I reinstalled all the drivers from the OS X 10.6 disk to see if this fixed the problem. It seems to have fixed it as my games no longer freeze after a while and I can here the fan revving up. I am running XP. I think the problem with my games was the GPU / CPU slowing down when it got to a certain temperature. I think the GPU slowed down at 90˚C as my games went to a frame rate of about 2fps when it went above 90˚C. It now stays around 70˚-85˚C and my games run fine. PC Wizard still doesn't show the fan speed correctly but I think that it can't actually read the fan speed for some reason as it always says 2000rpm even when I can here the fan going a lot faster.

PC Wizard 2010 (latest version) still has bugs. It can't read the fan speed and gives incorrect temperature readings for the CPU and other devices. My advice to you is to remove it and don't worry about the fan speed or temps. As cw107 advised if the machine overheats, it will shut down.

Regards.
