hey all,

me myself a newbie to mac forums

was wondering if we can install Windows XP on an external hard disk

I have a macbook 13.3. inch

Leopard 10.5.5

I dont want to use bootcamp and i want to install on my existing hard disk.

I want to install only on my external hard disk

I have downloaded virtual box assuming it would be of help but couldnt go further for lack of clarity on how to go about the procedure

Any help on the procedure to do so or pointers to the same anywhere in the forums will be of great help

thanks

I have managed to install virtual box, and place the virtual disc on my external with no problems, it was very easy indeed

what problems are you having?

You simply create a new virtual machine, go through the settings, save the machine file to the external and then use your Windows disk to install on to it

I as well have VM's on an external disk (4 in fact of which 3 are different versions of Windows). By default, VirtualBox will want to put your VM on your local disk so be careful and make sure to change the location during setup of your virtual disk.

windows on external hard disk

thanks to all for the responses, you made my life a lt more easier

i have some more questionsO:)

The external hard disk i am talking about is the Western digital 320 Gb hard disk. I hope i can use this

Once i am done with the installation and all, whether i can just connect the external hard disk having windows on it and use it on other windows OS or Leopard OS

i know they are prety Innocuous questions but none the less are causing me a little bit of empty headedness

Thanks
me :)
