Good day

I am running VMware fusiion. XP did an update after update it said it was loading personal settings. That page remained for approx 10 minutes then screen went black. I have been unable to get anything to appear so i turn to you folks.

All of my business accounting is on my virtual machine and my back ups are on that particular hard drive. Is there anyway to get this machine back and running? If not how can i get my backups for my accounting program? Everything else is fine to be lost i dont care i just NEED my books

Regards

Did you use the Fusion option to make a backup copy of the VM? If you did, just load the backup copy and proceed from there.

Also, I'm not sure why you have critical data backed up on the same virtual drive that also runs the XP virtual machine? That's asking for disaster. Always backup critical data to an external drive or media even if it's being run from a virtual machine.

Regards.

I am not sure why i would do that either i jsut assumed there would be a way to access the files. A back door option perhaps since they are technically on the same hard drive. If i can access my files i can send to my ThinkPad or until i get my vmware back and running.

Anyone else with some insight?

Was this during the original install or subsequently? If the latter, restore to a snapshot. If during the install, I would delete the VM and try again. You should check the install disk to be sure it is ok as well.

This was subsequently. So i ahve had it up and running for several months now no issues. I was prompted to do an update for xp and i did so. A blue screen (typical intro screen for xp) that said loading your personal settings. Maybe i will attempt to reload xp via the disc and see what happens.

I've had the same experience. VM Fusion 3 running XP VM. Completely black screen with no response after installing Windows updates.

Same answer as above. Restore your VM from snapshot backup if possible. If not, you'll probably need to start over with a new VM.
