Blank white screen playing movies...

I get a white blank screen playing moves on my mac book, it has lateste version of quicktime installed, can anyone recommend a convertor or somehting?

The first time it sent me to a website to download codecs, whic went onto my desktop and did nothing, so i deleted them, not the player is juts a blank white screem, someone please help i need to view these vids on my macbook........

i have added the component codec file to quicktime in library as instructed.... and still nothing juts white blank screen
