Does anyone use a 20 inch Dell monitor as an external display for the Macbook Pro 15" unibody released around Christmas 2008?

Be very helpful to know, thanks :)

Your MBP should work with any 20" monitor.

If you have some specific question, you should ask it.

Anyone's answer to this will not help you, as Dell probably has put out 30-50 different 20" monitors.

I use a 22" Dell monitor with my MBP 13" and it works perfectly, but as bobtomay points out, just about any monitor will work with just about any Mac.

My question was if so, then which Dell monitor. I ask because just bought a Dell UltraSharp U2410, and could not get it to display properly. Also could not use it wit the mac book lid closed.

All I'd like to know is the model of a 19-20" Dell if anyone is successfully using one as an external for the the macbook pro 15". Also any problems anyone is having using the external display with the macbook closed.

I'm considering the Dell Ultrasharp™ 2209WA 22-Inch

(DELL Dell Ultrasharpâ„¢ 2209WA 22-Inch Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor - Silver : Dell Monitors: LCD Flat Panel Monitors & Widescreen Display | Dell United Kingdom)

Sorry if I wasn't specific enough for you.

Any help really appreciated. O:)

I use a Dell S2209W. I don't use it with the lid closed though. I travel with my MBP daily, so I need it to sleep when the lid closes.

I can't speak for Dell monitors, but as far as using any monitor with the lid of your MBP closed, it should work regardless. You need to have an external keyboard and mouse attached. Take a look at the following Apple KB article titled "Clam shell mode". Link

No external monitor is going to work properly unless you can get it to display in its native resolution. That includes your Dell. Also, you must use AC main power when you have an external monitor attached.

Regards.
