Terminal insert/delete characters problem

Hello everyone!

I'm new to Macs, but love every bit of it. I am currently trying to install MMC (MUD client) from sources. Installation process goes well and finishes without errors. However, when I run my newly installed app from terminal I get the following

Can't initialize terminal: terminal cannot insert/delete characters

Any ideas what that might be caused by?

maybe try..

export TERM=xterm


or

export TERM=vt100


then try it again.

export TERM=xterm

and running mmc after produces a Bus error. I think it's getting somewhere )
