Converting Video in TOAST

So is it normal for my macbook to convert video from one format to MP4 at basically real time?? Seems very slow....

MacBook 2 GHz Core Duo ! GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Yes, it is fairly slow but, so is quicktime
