Compression of files

Hi
I have an avi 350mg file, it is a TV show and i need to compress it to 300mgs so i can upload it. Everything i try doesn't work. I have tried dropstuff, betterzip and a bunch of other ones. I have no idea why it isn't working.
I was wondering if anyone knew the reason or knew a program i can use to compress it???

Try HandBrake .
It's good for compressing the likes of avi's.

I tried but it didn't work, everytime i added the file it just doesn't do anything?
