Moving iPhoto to new mac???

13 in MacBook Air, 4 Gb RAM
How do I move iPhoto to my new macbook air while keeping the albums that i have created intact? I have tried putting the iPhoto Library file onto my external and then onto the Air but it does not keep my albums put together plus it turned ~3,500 pics into 114,316 pics with a crazy amount of duplicates and the close up of people for the "faces" feature as their own pics now. Please help!!! Thanks
