I cant imagine what this thread will turn into ....but

I currently have att, with a normal postpaid account. I have a plain old phone hooked up. Im not upgrade eligible until 2/09.

Does this mean I can pay 499$ for the 16gb, and just renew the contract? Or do i have to pay 699$???

Im a little confused by the "pay and walk" policy they are offering, and whether i can get the 399/499 deal!

Mods: i didnt wanna put this in the iphone hardware thread, so i thought it best here.

Um, that doesn't mean that's not where it belongs. There's a reason we have separate forums for separate topics. ;)

Moved to correct forum.

When I check my upgrade eligibility, it says this:
This line is eligible for equipment discount pricing when you sign up for a 2-year service agreement. You can take advantage of our no-commitment pricing option, with the exception of iPhone which requires a 2-year commitment.

What does this mean I pay for a new iPhone on July 11th?

That eligibility requirement only refers to AT&T customers who currently don't own an iPhone. If you have an iPhone, then you can get the subsidized rates (i.e. $199 and $299).

Ah, that makes sense since the original iPhone really wasn't subsidized so it doesn't matter how long you've had the contract. Good deal. 16gb iphone, here I come. :)
