I've got 2 icons in my dock that start on bootup, "FolderShare" and "QuickSilver".

I like having these running, but I'd rather them not be in the dock as well.. is there a way to keep them running and not be in the dock? Thanks

well I don't know about FolderShare, but as far as quicksilver, there is an option in its preferences to hide the dock icon...

Go to System Preferences>Accounts>Log In Items and make sure if these two applications appear they are not selected. This will stop them firing up when you boot.
