Hello,

My Funds are limited and would like some opinions on a Powerbook for 1499
vs an IMac G5 for 1499 or an IBook.

Can I upgrade to a superdrive down the road?

I like Web Programming and GarageBand.

Having a hard time because of limited funds.

What is the best for the money?

Thanks
Frank

I guess it completely depends on what you are going to use it for. If you have to have portability then you'll definitely need the powerbook.. if you don't then go for the iMac. The iMac will be faster, bigger hard drive, etc than the powerbook.. so if you need higher performance then go for the iMac. Im not saying the powerbook is a poor performer.. it definitely is not, but it is slower than the iMac. I have one of each and when i travelled I used my powerbook all the time, but now that I do not travel as much, I use my iMac all the time...

If you are going to primarily use GarageBand, go for the faster processer, but if you need portability the PowerBook certainly won't be a slouch. I use my iMac 17" 1.25Ghz for GarageBand and haven't had any problems yet, and the performance is still excellent.

I'd opt out of considering an iBook. If you don't need the portability, you should be quite pleased with the iMac G5.
