My LaCie hard drive heats up in a matter of minutes and in about a half an hour (even when idle) the warning thing will pop up telling me that i removed something unsafely and that next time I should eject it first... well i didn't remove it, it failed. I go to pick up my LaCie and it's hot enough to kill a moose.

Any suggestions?

Is it still under warranty? If it is, call LaCie and ask for a RMA - that drive is about to fail. Remove everything from it by copying to another drive as soon as you can. I don't know if you'll be successful in getting everything backed up before the drive overheats completely and shuts down for good.

The overheating could be caused by a defective component on the controller board. Possibly the drive input power supply.

Regards.
