Macbook - 2.4 ghz intel core duo / 4 gig of ram.
I am looking at getting a macbook pro / mac pro very soon.
I just have a quick question...

How easy is it to install in either machine and is there an online tutorial (i cannot find one). Also, if i open up the machine and installed ram, if anything went wrong (either on opening it, or say, a few months down the line) would I be covered by the manufacturers one year warranty, or If i had it, apple care?

Thanks

Memory is user-upgradeable. If you physically damage the machine in the process of installing it, your warranty would be void. However, it's very unlikely that this would happen since the process is so simple. The installation of memory is covered in the user manual for both systems.

Here is an online article specific to the MacBook Pro...

I wasn't able to find one for the Mac Pro, but the process is even easier for that system, which was very deliberately designed to be user-upgradeable.

I take it installing macpro ram is similar to a pc...?

One thing I have noticed, on the "how to" guide you gave me a link for - it claims that the most a macbook pro can have is 3gig, yet if i try to custom build a macbook pro it states I can have 4 gig, is the guide older than the new macbook pros, or is the site wrong?

I believe the Mac Pro has 4. The MacBook Pro has two.

The newest version of the MacBook Pro can take 4. The original Core Duo MacBook Pro can take 2, the Core 2 Duo can take 3 and the Santa Rosa Core 2 Duo can take 4.

EDIT: Correction, the Mac Pro has a total of 8 slots.
