I'm a new convert. I just got the MacBook Pro with the Intel chip. I can't seem to play any video files besides some QuickTime files. Is there a download or software for using Windows media player or downloading .wmv files? Thanks for the help.

You will need flip4mac to open those types of files in QuickTime, Microsoft no longer makes Windows Media Player for Mac, but being generous they paid the company that makes flip4Mac to give thier plugin out for free.

Forgot to add that sometimes files are stubborn, and you can't open it with flip4Mac, and have to use a program called VLC. If neither work, you will probably not be able to open these files on a Mac very easily, ie the 'WMV3' encoded videos have never worked for me.

Thanks for the help; however, Flip for Mac does not work with the Intel chip yet. Download wouldn't complete and an error message came up indicating it was not intel chip compatible.

Any other suggestions?

You could try XinePlayer. I prefer it to VLC, and I haven't come across anything yet that it couldn't play. You can get it here: http://xineplayer.berlios.de/

I dont' know if it has an intel specific build, but it should run fine regardless.

I've used VLC to play ANYTHING and EVERYTHING in between, that's just me.

Oh and btw there is a version of Media Player for Macs, I have an Intel iMac and I got it working. Then again, that was off of the Office CD...

Are you using the new VLC version for intel? I've been looking for a way to see my WMV too since I made the switch a month ago. (Best purchase I've ever made btw! I love this little intel imac!)

yes, I am 100% sure VLC works for Intel. I've used (using it at the moment as a matter of fact).
