Have you seen the newbies with their first post and titles of:

Looking for iPad case....
Looking for headphones...
Looking for speakers...
Looking for iPhone....

And then the post reads something like this:

I have recently purchased an ABC but now I am looking for XYZ to do whatever. It needs to be attractive and stylish, good quality, light weight etc. So, please suggest me the best website where I can checkout and purchase the best quality XYZ.

We are being spammed.

Yeah i've noticed it, reported a couple of them. Really annoying taking away space and time from people who actually need help or have something relevant to say.

Never reply to these, or even look really, because if people can't google I can't be arsed to help them,
Still, thanks for the heads up Bob.

The key here in noticing the first post of these particular 1-2 punch spammers, they typically ask for the best "place" to buy vs the best "item" to buy.

Though, we do get the others also from time to time.

Tis a new trend and is happening on another forum that I am a mod on. Annoying to say the very least.

The spammers are also posting that same garbage in this forum and the "Community Suggestions and Feedback" forum. Caught several last night and one today.

What's the point of it? Just to waste our time? They aren't supplying links to anything, are they? Just wondering why people even bother to do things like that. Sad...

The general idea is that first they get the threads put up. Get regular members posting to them so the mods don't pay attention to them. Then they'll come back a week or two or a month later to put up the link to the site they're working for - under yet another name of course.

Thanks for letting us know Bob!:). If that's the case...I certainly won't waste my time answering their "questions".

Just curious...are these spammers also including some sort of link that they are trying to direct us towards? Just wondering how they're benefitting if we did accidentally reply to their "spam" post in a Mac-Forums thread.

- Nick

p.s. Nevermind...I see the same question I asked was asked 8 min. ago.;)

Plus, wanted to give some of ya'll that have been helpful in these threads a heads up if/when you notice some of your posts are gone. Have had one in the last week that signed up under 5 or 6 names the same day and then scatter their posts out over 3-4 days time so as not to be obvious.

Realize that we do have legitimate folks asking some of these type of questions, such as where's the best place to buy a Mac or someone looking at a couple of different brands of an item perhaps looking for some feedback.

I don't want to scare anyone off from helping. Just thought this one was being scummy enough to let everyone know about it. We all get caught by these guys, myself included.
