powerbook g4
I have a powerbook g4. expanding to 2gig ram. 512mg hd.
can i run photoshop/illustrator or will it bog down?

Should i get an external hd? Mac mini?

I am (on a budget) trying to set up a home photo edit/ design suite. I do most of my work (photo/art edit & graphic art) at the office and need to work from home more.

I need:

a larger monitor that displays true color. I have a Lacie at work and i plan to calibrate it regularly. should i get a mac display? i have heard of friends in design using a sony vizio and the like...

scratch disk/external hd

wacom tablet

plan b is to get an imac. if yes then what should i build the system with?

Any suggestions would be helpful:)

I tried Photoshop on my PowerBook, it ran but slow. I then tried Graphic Converter, it was fast on my PB. Everything you mention, GC will do and cost a fraction of what Photoshop cost. I now run a MBP and still use GC.

I used to run PS 7 on a G4 TI 1gb... it wasnt terrible but it wasnt blazing either...

Run a firewire external as a scratch if you can
the ram will help

I think you can go up to CS3 but CS would prob be best.
Cant say I know what CS4 would do on a legacy machine
