I'm doing a graphic design degree and do a lot of inkjet prints from home but also do a lot of wide format laser/inkjet prints at the college. From this a wanted to know which Pantone guide should be used for this type of printing as it would be good colour guide to help me in my work.

Well, if you are working with print work then you don't want to concentrate too much on Pantone, in my opinion. Yes, Pantone can be used as a guide for your color, but you are going to be more concerned with the CMYK value of a color for print work.

There is a good tool online that I have used here:

http://www.therightcolor.com/PantonePicker/ColorPicker.html

There is another site that also gives the Pantone/CMYK/RGB values for color here:

http://www.aperion.de/aperion/pantone2rgb2.htm

Hope that helps
