update killed my macbook

Last night I did an update on my macbook, then when restarting my hard drive failed. I guess its just a coincidence. My mac is 40 months old but my hard drive is only 18 months old. Glad I bought a mini in Sept. Just ordered my new hardrive.
Update was a wifi firmware and something else I can't remember. I think I'll skip this update on my mini for a while.

Could not wait so I went to staples and they had on WD 250 gig hard drive. No other choice, WD it is. Replaced it and formatted; currently restoring from time machine. Fortunately I backed up 2 days ago. Before that was 2 months. I got lucky their. The mini is hooked up to my backup full time.
